100 Ways to Listen - an ongoing interdisciplinary investigation into how listening can be an agent for environmental awareness (with John Ferguson, Leah Barclay).

Piano Bloom - Artist-in-residence collective at the Queensland Government EcoScience Precinct in Dutton Park, working with soil scientists on erosion (with Erik Griswold, Renata Buziak, Jan Baker-Finch, Vicki Kelleher).

Hidden Sounds - Australia Council funded project to build 7 new public sound installations looking at the Nature of Sound|Sound of Nature (with Erik Griswold, John Ferguson, Leah Barclay, Sulja Nezovic, Erkki Veltheim).

Making Music Work - An ARC-LP examining the lived experience of musicians working in Australia.

Out of the Auditory - an investigation in the sonic principals of acoustic spaces in collaboration with Architecture, Acoustics and Sound Studies.

Sichuan Folk Music - an ongoing, 20 year project than examines the traditional musics of Sichuan Province in Western China and proposes points of intersection with Western Improvised Music.

8 Hits - An ongoing project that expands the solo percussion repertoire by Australian composers.

Bio

Vanessa Tomlinson is a percussionist, composer, improviser and curator, with a particular interest in Chinese music, found sounds, acoustic ecology, and the cultural history of all things hit. She spends her time at the conservatorium running the percussion department, teaching about improvisation and contemporary music, and working with post grad students. One of her great pleasures is working with the ensembles Ba Da Boom Percussion and the New Music Ensemble making brand new compositional ideas come to life, whether a performance on scaffolding, performance in the bush or performances in concert halls. In her spare time Vanessa co-directs the magical sound-making world of APRA award winning group Clocked Out.
