Susanne Becken

Dr. Susanne Becken is a Professor of Sustainable Tourism at Griffith University and Director of the Griffith Institute for Tourism (GIFT). Susanne is a global expert in tourism and global change. She has published widely and has provided advice to government, industry and international organisations. Her focus of research is on tourism and climate change, resource use, resilience and risk management, sustainable consumption, and environmental policy for tourism. Susanne has used a wide range of research methods and collaborated with research partners on economic modelling, qualitative methods, and big data analytics.

Bio
Dr Susanne Becken is the Director of the Griffith Institute for Tourism. She is a Professor of Sustainable Tourism at Griffith University, Australia, and an Adjunct Professor at Lincoln University, New Zealand. Susanne has led several government-funded research programmes in New Zealand and has also undertaken a broad range of consultancy work in Australia and internationally. Susanne has widely published on the topics of sustainable tourism, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, tourist behavior, environmental policy, and risk management. She was a contributing author to the Fourth and the Fifth IPCC Assessment Reports. Susanne is on the editorial boards of Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Journal of Policy Research in Tourism, Leisure and Events, and the Tourism Review.
