Overview

Current Work

Robin is an agribusiness research stream leader with the Griffith Asia Institute and an academic in the Griffith Business School.

Food and agribusiness have a massive economic, social, and environmental footprint. This global industry is valued at over $4.5 trillion and represents 10 percent of global consumer spending and 40 percent of employment. Although productivity has improved over the last 40 years, going forward research shows that feeding the global population is a key issue.

Learning and Teaching

Contribution to Learning and Teaching

Associate Professor Robin Roberts provides leadership in learning and teaching in the Griffith Business School. Specifically, Robin champions the use of economics and market insights to support an effective pedagogy in international business studies.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy has evolved through my own experience both as a student and a lecturer. It is my strong belief that every lecturer has two roles to play at university and in lives of students. First, I aim to pass on the knowledge to students in a manner that inspires curiosity about the subject, stimulates creative thinking, and promotes questioning and debate. Second, I strive to become a trusted peer and mentor for professional and personal guidance.

My research informs my teaching. Success in teaching means recognizing and capitalizing on how students learn and making the learning process enjoyable. Some students have a natural feel for economic concepts and others learn by engaging in real world applications. I organise field trips to provide opportunities to students to apply their theoretical knowledge to solve practical industry problems. In addition, I invite industry and government leaders to share their work life experiences in the classroom with students.
