Research by Higher Degree Supervision or Scholarship

Supervision Overview

Professor Rodney Stewart is a highly motivated and experienced supervisor of PhD candidates. Many of his PhD candidates work on practical industry problems and have industry partners involved in varied capacities in the PhD process of his students (i.e. Work integrated higher degree by research), which makes his graduates ready for employment in both industry and academic roles on completion of their PhD. Most of his PhD graduates have secured highly successful careers in academic or industry roles in Australia and overseas. Professor Stewart often gets his students to focus on high quality publication outputs during the course of their PhD and they usually produce 3-5 high quality journal papers at PhD completion, along with a number of refereed conference publications. Most PhD theses completed are planned such that they are a compilation of these high quality papers (i.e. PhD as a series of published and unpublished papers). PhD students working closely with industry partners on practical problems that have medium term industry impact and the publication of high quality papers during the PhD process, makes his students highly valued by industry firms, research-focused institutes and universities.
