Overview

Current Work

Monique Lewis is a Lecturer in the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Griffith University. With an academic background in sociology and media studies, and a professional background in public relations practice, Monique teaches media relations, public relations and ethics, and risk and crisis communication.

Her research spans across media, health & medicine, and risk sociologies. Her investigations have focused on news and biomedical media representations of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), as well as exploring how risk is constructed in these representations by a range of different interest groups and competing claims-makers.

Monique has published articles in Health Sociology Review and the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and has presented her research findings nationally and internationally. Her most recent publication is a chapter for the Routledge Handbook of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, titled ‘CAM Products, Practitioners and the State: Perspectives on Risk and the “Protection of the Public” in the Australian media’ (2015).

In addition to her academic work, Monique has undertaken media advisory and public relations roles within university and corporate sectors.
