Topics include:
- Resilience in women following suicide attempts;
- Maternal Exposure to intimate partner violence and reproductive health service utilization among Bangladeshi women;
- Making decisions: The lived experience of women who in their second trimester of pregnancy have been given a diagnosis of fatal or severe fetal anomalies;
- What are the factors that contribute women's birth choices?;
- Designing evidence based interventions to tackle violence against women and improve maternal and child health: (An example from Nepal);
- Exploration of the process involved when women request a termination of pregnancy in Queensland when expereincing domestic and family violence.

Background

Bio

I have been a midwife since 1996 and have gained a wealth of experience in clinical experience in a variety of positions, in the United Kingdom and Australia. Positions included team midwifery, group practice and one to one case holding. In 2004 I was appointed to the academic staff of The University of the West of England where I managed to maintain an academic position whilst continuing to maintain my clinical midwifery expertise. I have a strong track record in learning and teaching and I am a consistent advocate for teaching excellence and innovation in midwifery professional education. In 2012 I relocated to Australia where I took up a post within the school of Nursing and Midwifery, Griffith University as a Senior Midwifery Lecturer. I currently hold a joint position with Griffith University and the Gold Coast University Hospital as Director of Education for Women, Newborn & Children Services.

I was successfully appointed as an external examiner between the years of 2008 – 2012 in the UK and I am currently an educational program assessor for Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.

I have gained experience in all aspects of academic and clinical development and management. I understand the importance of knowledge exchange and how research between the university and the clinical practice area influences evidence-based practice in the clinical environment with the overall purpose or improving the care provided to women and their families throughout the continuum of pregnancy and childbirth.
I have gained experience in all aspects of academic development and management. I was successfully appointed as an external examiner between the years of 2008 – 2012 in the UK and I am currently an educational program assessor for Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council.

I also consider myself to be proactive in developing strong links with the development of professional practice and research. I have been fortunate enough to work alongside Government organisations such as the Home Office and the Department of Health and professional bodies such as the Royal College of Midwives in the UK prior to relocating to Queensland. I have a strong profile in research into intimate partner violence and I am currently the deputy chair for the Queensland Death and Homicide Review Board and a member of the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Implementation Council.
