Bio

Dr Yang is currently an Associate Professor in Griffith School of Engineering at Griffith University. Before joining Griffith University, He was a Research Fellow with Brunel University, UK, and King’s College London, UK from 2003 to 2009, a Professor with Fuzhou University, China from 1997 to 2003, and East China Universityof Science and Technology, China from 2009 to 2011, and an Associate Professor at Central Queensland University, Australia from 2011 to 2014. He had also held Visiting Professor appointments with the University of Manchester, UK, and the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

His current research interests include Networked Control Systems, Distributed Filtering and Sensing, Reliable Fault Detection and Diagnosis, Coordinated Control for Distributed Solar Power Generation Systems, and Solar PV Grid-Connected Inverter Control and Islanding Detection. Dr Yang has published more than 200 journal and conference papers. Among these articles 25 articles are published in the most prestigious IEEE journals. According to the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Essential Science Indicators, 5 papers have been listed as Highly Cited Papers in the field of “Engineering”, and 2 papers are among the top 0.1% of all papers in 2006 for citations in the field of “Engineering”. His publications have been cited 2114 times with h-index of 22 according to ISI Web of Science.

Dr Yang as a chief investigator has successfully secured one Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project and completed three competitive grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and one competitive grant from 973 Program (National Basic Research Program of China), and ten grants from local governments, such as Fujian province Natural Science Foundation, the Talent Research Fund of Shanghai, the Fund for University Key Teacher from the Ministry of Education and the Fundamental Research Fund for the Central Universities of China. He has also obtained two grants from the Royal Society of the UK as the partner investigator and several industry collaboration projects from industry partners.

Dr Yang has been serving as an Associate Editor of the Conference Editorial Board (CEB) of IEEE Control Systems Society. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since 2004. As a principal supervisor, he has supervised 11 PhD students and 25 Master students for successful completion of their degrees.

Dr Yang was a recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award for Young Teachers from Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation, Ministry of Education of China in 1995; four Science and Technology Development Awards from Fujian Province of China in 1996, 1999, 2002, and 2006, respectively, one Natural Science Award from Shanghai Municipality of China in 2010; and two Youth Science and Technology Awards from Fujian Province of China and from Yun Sheng Foundation both in 1998. He was listed in Ten Outstanding Youth from Fujian Province of China in 1999 and was honored the May 4 Youth Medal from Fujian Province of China in 2000. Since 2001, He has been acting as a State Consultant receiving Special Allowance from the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
