TEACHING INTERESTS

Dr Zagami teaches in the field of computer education at all levels of schooling, from the preparation of teachers to teach the Technologies curriculum in the primary years (F-6), Digital Technologies in the middle years (7-10), Digital Solutions in the senior years (11 and 12), New Technologies for Masters studies (MEd), and EdD and PhD students undertaking individual research studies in the fields of computing and educational technologies. Dr Zagami also conducts professional development courses online, on campus, and in schools on the implementation of new computing curricula and various research fields. Public seminars and courses are supported by the Gold Coast Teacher Education Industry Advisory Group, Google CS PD grants, Apple Distinguished Educators, the Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education (QSITE), the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE), the Australian College of Educators (ACE), the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Teachers interested in pursuing further studies in computer education should consider studies in a Masters of Education, a Master of Education and Professional Studies Research, a Doctor of Education (EdD), or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Organisations, schools, departments, and nations interested in tailored professional development sessions, programs or courses should make enquiries through the Griffith University Professional Learning Hub (PLHub). In 2016/17 Dr Zagami ran courses for over 1300 teachers and several hundred schools, and is always looking for new ways to support schools in their teaching of computing and uses of educational technologies to improve student learning. While Dr Zagami is focused on large scale solutions that can meet the needs of states and nations, he does enjoy meeting the specific needs of teachers and schools where possible, such as when PD funding and innovative research opportunities are available.
