BIO

Dr Haitham Tuffaha is a Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics and an NHMRC Fellow at the Centre for Applied Health Economics, School of Medicine, Griffith University. Haitham has over five years of experience in Health Technology Assessment as an evaluator of Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) and Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) submissions for the Australian Government. His research is centered on the economic evaluation of health care interventions. He has interest in Value of Information analysis as an approach to improve early access to novel cancer drugs via managed entry agreements. Furthermore, he is leading a project to develop a practical value of information-based tool to inform research funding and prioritisation decisions. Before joining Griffith University, Haitham had ten years of experience as clinical pharmacy specialist and manager with proven record of leadership and mentoring. He was Head of Clinical Pharmacy at King Hussein Cancer Center. In that position, He supervised a team of 15 clinical pharmacists covering various inpatient and ambulatory services ensuring safe, effective and cost-effective use of medicines. Haitham holds a PhD in Health Economics from Griffith University, an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy with Distinction from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, and an MBA from Wollongong University. He is also a Board-Certified Oncology Specialist by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, USA. He holds prestigious awards for his achievements in practice and research including Griffith University Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor Research Excellence Awards, the Endeavour Executive Award, and AusHSI Best Health Services Research Award. Haitham chairs the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) Epidemiology Group, and he is a Committee Member of ISPOR-Australia Chapter. Haitham has an excellent record of international presentations and publications with almost 50 papers and technical reports. In addition, he is an Editorial Board Member of PharmacoEconomics-Open journal.
