TEACHING INTERESTS

Despite having a background in on campus teaching and presentations, Heather has been teaching in the online space since 2013. Her background covers undergraduate and post graduate teaching in the management discipline. The current teaching load is online including undergraduate courses in Management Problem Solving, Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, Management Concepts. Heather has been recognised for her online teaching with the Griffith Academic Teaching Excellence (Online) in 2015; several OUA Academic Excellence for student satisfaction and holds a Senior Fellow - Higher Education Academy. Heather's teaching and learning (and research) philosophy is about collaborative and continual learning practices. On the macro level, she aims to make a difference and believes learning is not an end game – it is continual. Heather aim is to facilitate, not preach, by exemplifying, discussing, reflecting and interacting with her students to broaden their understanding of management. In the online environment, she achieves this through creating a supportive environment where her students by developing and supporting a sense of connection to one another which enables a safe environment to share and discuss ideas with each other. Although this can be challenging, in the online environment it is important to enhance and promote “active learning” opportunities (Pelley 2014) so students can engage in discussion through her collaborative approach.
