With a management underpinning, Heather's research has three core elements that are linked through continual and collaborative learning. The first research interest is on sustainable management practices (some may think of this as CSR) specifically in small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Often this research takes a qualitative case study approach to explore best practice of how and why and how SMEs improve (or not) through SMP. This research began during Heather's PhD and she has taken this into into regional and international projects that are ongoing. The second focus has the common thread of continual and collaborative learning and improvement which extends into exploratory studies in online higher education. Past research in higher education has taken an action learning approach to explore professional development of academics, developing a large online first year course, the building of a capstone course and students' study mode choices. This work is ongoing and mostly aimed at the online context with several projects awarded grants. The third element of Heather's research is in her curiosity and passion for qualitative methodology. The qualitative side of Heather's research involves mostly exploratory studies. Building trustworthiness and credibility through a crystallised approach that aligns with the depth and richness that Heather seeks in her research.
