Dr Elisabeth Coyne is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith University Brisbane, Australia. She has over 30 years’ experience working in the acute hospital sector working in critical care, midwifery and oncology areas. Elisabeth is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Elisabeth is keen to provide students with knowledge informed by evidence based practice that clearly links the theory to the clinical practice. Her teaching philosophy is to provide student focused learning and seeks to understand the student perspective of university. She works closely with students who are provided with current information to develop their critical thinking preparing them for the diverse and complex clinical setting. Elisabeth’s research incorporates patient and family experience of chronic disease, and blended learning teaching methods within nursing. Elisabeth’s research has led to innovative methods for developing nurse and consumer partnership using simulation videos. Elisabeth’s teaching expertise in acute care nursing has a focus on patient and family assessment incorporating the Australian Safety and Quality Framework for Health Care, which focuses on consumer partnership for optimum patient outcomes. In her role as Senior Lecturer she has developed excellent online resources to ensure the development of nurses to be advanced practitioners with a passion for family centred care. Leading the development of the 2019 Cancer Nurses Society of Australia position statement of safety and education standards for nurse administration of chemotherapy, Elisabeth promoted a focus on consumer safety to ensure nurse safety.
