BIO

Drew started his career as an engineer working for the Australian Department of Defence. His early work was concerned with the safety of submarines, minesweepers, and hydrographic survey vessels. Since then his interest in the intersection of safety research and safety management has led to involvement in tunnel ventilation systems under Hong Kong, railways in India, autonomous vehicles in England, radiation therapy in the USA, and occupational violence in Queensland hospitals. Drew has previously taught or researched at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of York, Australian National University, and University of Queensland. He also presents the popular 'DisasterCast' podcast, examining the history, causes, and prevention of major accidents.
