BIO

Children deserve the best of our healthcare. I am working to optimise health service delivery for children in hospital, so they are able to receive the treatment they need, without complications. I am a Paediatric Nurse, Associate Professor and NHMRC Fellow at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Menzies Health Institute Queensland. I am also the Paediatric and Neonates Director and Industry Liaison for the Alliance for Vascular Access Teaching and Research (AVATAR; https://www.avatargroup.org.au/) and co-lead of the PAediaTric Teaching and Research Network (PATTERN; https://www.patternetwork.com). Currently supported by a National Health and Medical Research (NHMRC) Fellowship, project and partnership grants, my research focuses on the prevention of complications associated with paediatric hospital admissions, especially those related to central venous access devices. This includes leading projects such as the: - Development of the Michigan Appropriateness Guide for Infusion Catheters in Paediatrics (mini-MAGIC): https://www.avatargroup.org.au/mini-magic.html - Innovation to improve the experience and outcomes of central venous access devices in paediatrics and cancer care: the e-Vascular Access Passport https://www.avatargroup.org.au/e-vascular-access-passport.html - Peripherally inserted central catheter Innovation to reduCe Infections and Clots (the PICNIC trial) https://www.avatargroup.org.au/picnic.html - Prevention of Occlusion of cEnTral lInes for Children with cancer: the POETIC project https://www.avatargroup.org.au/poetic.html - NeOnatal Vascular Access (NOVA) study: an observational audit of neonatal vascular access complications https://www.avatargroup.org.au/nova.html
