Associate Professor Lynne Briggs has extensive experience in clinical social work practice and academia with a focus on gender, mental health and mixed methods research design. She has successfully led various research and evaluation projects in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Hong Kong. Her research includes national and international mixed method studies in mental health outcomes, exploring whether demoralization may provide a more relevant diagnosis than clinical depression, the impact of child sexual abuse on adult women survivors, refugee women, gender-based violence and interventions in disasters. She has a strong publication record in international and national journals and has presented her research at psychiatry, mental health and social work conferences. She has held several senior academic posts and currently is the Academic Lead of the Social Work Field Education and Clinical Practice program and has oversite of student placements in the University’s Social Work Clinic, Health Services, Government Departments, Community Services and International placements. She is also very involved in the School’s delivery of international articulation programs for international students and the operation of the Chinese Australian Social Work Research Centre in Wuhan, China. As a registered Level C User with the Australian Psychological Corporation Associate Professor Lynne Briggs can undertake, and supervise, psychological testing. She has three international visiting professorships and is a Senior Research Fellow at Massey University.
