Dr Michael Waring is a member of the Griffith Institute for Educational Research and Senior Lecturer in the School of Education and Professional Studies. Michael joined Griffith University in February 2020 from Loughborough University in the UK, where he was the Director of Undergraduate Studies, School of Sport Exercise and Health Sciences, and Director of the MSc in Education (Qualified Teacher Status) Physical Education programme. Prior to Loughborough, Michael was at Durham University where he held several leadership positions in the School of Education and the School of Sport and Health, designing and directing innovative postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, managing teaching and learning, and facilitating research informed practice. At both Durham and Loughborough Michael was instrumental in the implementation and development of their use of VLEs. Michael has extensive consultancy and advisory experience, as well as quality assurance and inspection of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching within a variety of universities in the UK and internationally, and national curricula in schools. He sits on the executive of the Society for Educational Studies, and is on the editorial board of the British Journal of Educational Studies, an Associate Editor of the Higher Education Pedagogies journal, and a founding member of the Interdisciplinary Network for Research informed Assessment Practices supported by Advance HE. His research interests focus on the development of a critical approach to pedagogy, assessment and feedback, research literacy and the use of technology enhanced learning as part of distance and blended learning. As part of the exploration of his research agenda he is interested in interdisciplinarity and the innovative use of qualitative research methodology.
