Linda-Dianne (Linda) Willis is a Senior Lecturer in Humanities and Social Sciences Education at Griffith University in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Before becoming a teacher educator and researcher she taught in early years, primary and lower secondary classrooms in Government and Independent schools in a career spanning more than three decades. Her PhD research focused on parent-teacher engagement using coteaching and cogenerative dialoguing. Since 2010 Linda has taught and designed Humanities and Social Sciences and English and literacy curriculum courses in Bachelor of Education (Primary, Middle Years of Schooling, Secondary and Dual Degree) and Master of Teaching (Primary) courses and programs. She was Director of the Master of Teaching (Primary) program at The University of Queensland from 2014 to 2018. At Griffith University she is currently the Primary Convenor for 1199EDN – Communication for teaching and learning (Gold Coast, Logan and Mount Gravatt campuses) and 7118EDN – Understanding the world we live in (Gold Coast, Mount Gravatt and Online campuses). Linda is recognised for her research in parent engagement. Her other research interests include dialogic pedagogies, inquiry curriculum, literacy and literacies, preservice teacher education, and educational leadership. Linda uses design-based research together with innovative research methods such as cogenerative dialogues and metalogues. She calls on sociological concepts such as ‘social capital’ and ‘agency as achievement’ to conceptualise how individuals develop and learn particularly in the context of learning communities. Using these concepts she considers how usually marginalised individuals such as parents in schools may be enabled to play more participatory roles as co-educators alongside teachers in their child’s learning. Linda's current research (2016-2020), Principal leadership for parent-school-community engagement, is supported by the Queensland Department of Education's Education Horizon Grant scheme in partnership with Parents and Citizens' Associations Queensland. She is also leading cross-institutional research into, Understanding the processes of negotiating dialogic learning and teaching in higher education and exploring preservice teacher and coteacher agency, with colleagues at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Monash University, and The University of Queensland. She has recently completed data collection for the two-year (2018-2019) project, Parent engagement in inquiry curriculum (EPIC), which was funded by The University of Queensland and conducted in partnership with Griffith University, Brisbane Catholic Education, Townsville Catholic Education, and Catholic Schools Parents Queensland. Linda is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at The University of Queensland. She is a member of the Social Educators’ Association of Queensland and Social and Citizenship Education Association Australia. She is National Publications Director of the Australian Literacy Educators' Association (ALEA) with oversight of three journals: Australian Journal of Language and Literacy (AJLL), Literacy Learning: the Middle Years (LLMY), and Practical Literacy: the Early and Primary Years (PLEPY). As ALEA Publications Director, Linda fulfills the role of an ALEA National Council Director and is a member of the ALEA National Council Executive. Between 2014 and 2017 Linda was Co-Editor in Chief of ALEA’s leading national literacy professional journal, PLEPY, and received ALEA’s Special Services Award in 2017. Linda's other current external service roles include: 2021 AATE/ALEA National Conference Co-Convenor, 2021 AATE/ALEA National Conference Program Committee Co-Chair, and Bulimba State School Council Appointed Member (2014-2020).
