I am Professor of Accounting and the Director of Corporate Governance and Accountability Research Cluster within Griffith University. I served as the Discipline Head of Accounting and the Deputy Head of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics for a three-year term till 31 October 2019. I have been educated and trained at University of Dhaka (Bangladesh), the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), and the University of Queensland (Australia). I joined Griffith University in 2006. Prior to joining Griffith University, I held academic employments at University of Dhaka, National University of Singapore, and the University of Queensland. I am a fellow of CPA Australia, a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and an associate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. I have published in esteemed academic journals in my research field, including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, The International Journal of Accounting, Accounting & Finance, Pacific Basin Finance Journal, Journal of Contemporary Accounting & Economics, Advances in Accounting, Journal of International Accounting Auditing & Taxation, Australian Accounting Review, and Pacific Accounting Review. My research work has been featured in The Australian Financial Review, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Canberra Times, Brisbane Times, Corporate Risk & Insurance Magazine, and many other regional newspapers.I have also appeared in television and print media commenting on accounting-related topics. In 2016, I won the Griffith Business School Research Excellence Award. I am a Co-Editor of Accounting Research Journal and a member of the Editorial Board of Managerial Auditing Journal. So far I have supervised six PhD students to completion. I am available for media commentary on corporate governance, executive pay, and financial reporting issues.
