Michelle Barker is a Professor of Management in the Department of International Business and Asian Studies and member of the Griffith Asia Institute. Her research expertise includes internationalisation of the curriculum (internationalisation at home), international student adjustment, intercultural skill development, workplace bullying and mobbing and transnational education. Prior to joining Griffith in 1993, Michelle had 17 years experience in the public sector. She was Deputy Director of AIDAB (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Queensland 1984-1992) and a Senior Social Worker in the Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs (1979-1984) where she was responsible for the design and delivery of orientation and skills training to refugees and migrants. Michelle was the inaugural Head of School of Management at Griffith University's Logan campus (1998-2000), and Head of Department at Nathan 2003-2004. She has achieved a national and international reputation as a researcher in the diverse areas of workplace bullying and intercultural adjustment. Michelle won the 2005 Individual Teacher Award in the category of Law, Economics and Business in the Australian Awards for University Teaching. Earlier, in 2003, Michelle led the team that won the Institutional Award category for Griffith University in relation to the ExcelL Intercultural Skills Program which she has co-developed with an international team of researchers.
