Professor Leonie Rowan is the Deputy Head of School (Research) in the School of Education and Professional Studies and the Deputy Director of the Griffith Institute for Educational Research. She has internationally recognised expertise in the following areas: -educational and social justice: how to maximise the impact of education on length and quality of life -educational and social risk: why and how educational and social institutions fail diverse and minority learners/employees -education and belonging: how educational settings can contribute to a sense of belonging within diverse communities -gender and risk: and the way lives, careers and well being are impacted by gender -gender education: how individuals, organisations and communities can learn to respond respectfully and meaningfully to the needs of diverse men, women and gender fluid individuals -gender and leadership: transformative approaches to the support of women and minority groups in organisations -gender and leadership failure: why gender based harassment, discrimination and violence persists -diversity: what it means, how it can be supported in meaningful (not tokenistic) ways -diversity education: how individuals, organisations and communities can learn to respond respectfully and meaningfully to the needs of diverse men, women and gender fluid individuals -policy and context analysis to identify and respond the risks within organisations that are created by the way that organisation responds to gender, sexuality, cultural background and socio-economic status -values led research: what does it actually mean (in day-to-day work) to pursue values such as justice, diversity or inclusion Her research and teaching are fundamentally interconnected and build on more than two decades of experience in education settings. She has received numerous, prestigious awards for her teaching and multiple competitive research grants (including 6 ARC funded grants) which signal the quality and impact of her work
