Between 2008 and 2020 I was Director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility at Griffith University. I have now stepped down from this role to concentrate on research, managing a project to look at present-day and future heat stress among workers in ready-made garment factories in Bangladesh. Prior to 2008 I worked at the UK Met Office, managing the preparation of the Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability) Fourth Assessment for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. And before that, I was at the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. I began my career as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi in the Department of Geography.
