Creina Mitchell has many years of experience in clinical practice (nursing and midwifery), research and education. Prior to entering the higher education sector, Creina worked in hospital, local government, state government and research organisations; predominately in areas related to maternal and child health. She has been an educator at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has prepared postgraduate students for specialty community-based maternal and child health nursing practice. Currently Creina is the Acting Bachelor of Nursing (BN) Program Director and Deputy BN Director at the Gold Coast campus of the School of Nursing and Midwifery. In this leadership position, she actively contributes to undergraduate nursing curriculum development and the educational preparation of those who will be the nurses of the future. Creina has made a professional commitment to advance and promote maternal and child health nursing practice. She has served as a member of the Queensland Child and Family Health Nurses Association (QCAFHNA) executive since its inception in 2009 and has held roles of Secretary and Vice-President. She is now the Treasurer of and Queensland representative on the Maternal, Child and Family Health Nurses Australia (MCAFHNA) national board, the peak professional nursing association for Maternal, Child and Family Health Nurses. Creina was a member of the team who developed the National Standards of Practice for Maternal, Child and Family Health Nurses in Australia. Along with her leadership in the specialty area of nursing, Creina contributes to nursing education as a member of the national committee of the Australian Nurse Teachers Society (ANTS). Creina has published in peer reviewed journals and presented findings from her collaborative research at national and international conferences. Her research interests include nursing education, maternal and child health, immunisation and community health. Her methodological interests include randomised trials, surveys and data management. Creina contributes to the nursing profession as a journal and conference reviewer, and to professional development via membership of conference committees.
